Elk River Yacht Club Membership:Membership in the Club is open to all individuals interested in sailing or power boating. It is not necessary to have a boat to become a member, but the Commodore, Vice Commodore and Rear Commodore (Bridge Officers) must be at least part owners of a "yacht" (boat). We hold informal meetings (see photographs) throughout the year (see schedule) at public sites or the homes of our members, since we do not have a Clubhouse.
Membership is gained by having a present member of the Club sponsor you as a member and submitting the completed membership application (available on this website [follow this link] or by request to our listed PO Box). Most members join after a guest visit to an event where a member has invited them.
There are two classes of membership: Adult (over 21 years of age) and Junior (Between 16 and 21 years of age). The latter category was established years ago to educate and promote good sailing and boating practices in our younger members. At this time, we have no junior members because our previous racing program has been discontinued.
Spouses are encouraged to become members. However, each member must pay the dues for that category (Adult = $50/year). This dues covers the administrative costs of the Club and also covers the food and beverages of the July Picnic and the September Dinner and Annual Meeting. It also covers the Beverages for the Opening Ceremony, the Day on The Bay Picnic, and the Crabtail Party. Hence, we believe that there is significant value gained from the membership dues. The Winter Rendezvous meeting is paid for individually and not included in the dues.
